THE PLAZA MOVIE CLUB
INTRODUCTION
Hello and welcome to June’s programme.
There have been a few changes to the cinema in the past month. Not only is there a new look to the programme we have also changed the name to THE PLAZA ARTSCREEN (don’t worry Movie Club membership is still valid).
Sadly we have said “Goodbye” to Henry Howell who has gone to pastures new and “Hello” again to our new manager Chris Halliday. Chris has promised to set the old Movie Club back on track with more of the movies you have been requesting and though it is not always possible to put the films on all week at 8.00pm she will endeavour to do her best by setting aside a Monday & Tuesday at an 8.00pm approx slot for our Artscreen Presentations.
Chris is also looking for feedback from yourselves so feel free to drop her a line or E mail at the address at the front of the brochure.
Once again we thank you for your support, it really does mean a lot to us.
Hope you enjoy this month’s films.
Please be aware that the film times are subject
to late change. Although this does not happen often, it may be advisable
to check with the cinema before travelling.

WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY DANIELE LUCHETTI.
STARRING Elio Germano, Riccardo Scamarcio & Angela Finocchiaro.
Brothers Accio (Elio Germano) and Manrico (Riccardo Scamarcio) grow up in the provincial town of Latina. They are trapped in a seemingly endless wait for decent council housing. Accio joins a Seminary and initially seems destined to become a priest. Later he goes back home and is befriended by a local market trader with extreme right wing tendencies. In the meantime Manrico gets a job in a factory, becomes a union leader, falls in love with Francesca. And then Accio meets Francesca...
FRIDAY JUNE 13TH FOR SEVEN DAYS
YOU, THE LIVING
RATED (15) COMEDY DRAMA CONTAINS A STRONG COMIC SEX SCENE.
IN SWEDISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.
SWEDEN / GERMANY / FRANCE / DENMARK / NORWAY Production.
WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY ROY ANDERSSON.
STARRING Jessika Lundberg, Elisabeth Helander & Bjorn Englund
“You, the Living” is filled with imaginative set-pieces, replete with black humour, surreal situations, and strange looking characters. If there is a theme that ties the sketches together, it is that our time on Earth is limited and “tomorrow is another day” , so let’s treat each other with kindness. Along the way, we are entertained by tuba and drum music from the Louisiana Brass Band, dinner guests at a banquet hall standing on their chairs singing a rousing song, and a house that turns into a moving train.
FRIDAY JUNE 20TH FOR SEVEN DAYS
THE OXFORD MURDERS
RATED (15) CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE, SEX AND VIOLENCE .
WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY ALEX de la IGLESIA.
STARRING Elijah Wood, John Hurt & Leonor Watling.
A mathematician/philosopher (John Hurt) and a would-be disciple (Elijah Wood) are thrown together at the scene of a murder which seems to be the first of a string of serial killings committed in answer to the professor’s declaration that there is no such thing as a purely intellectual murderer.
Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia presents a weird, skewed vision of British university life.
FRIDAY JUNE 27TH FOR SEVEN DAYS
MIDNIGHT TALKS
RATED (12A) CONTAINS SEX REFERENCES AND ONE USE OF STRONG LANGUAGE .
IN POLISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.
POLAND PRODUCTION.
DIRECTED BY MACIEJ ZAK
STARRING Magdalena Rotczka & Marcin Dorocinski .
This is a romantic comedy which is a combination of a charming and moving story of When Harry Met Sally with the craziness, humour and enchantment of Love Actually. It is a positive and optimistic story of two thirty-something people who are made for each other, Matylda and Bartek, who are needing and looking for love and closeness, but who are constantly missing each other in the course of their lives.
May I remind you that this programme is subject to
late change please contact the cinema to confirm any film showings.
